In 2006, Mittal merged with Arcelor to become the world’s largest steel company. As a way of saying thank you to the many people who helped make the deal happen, we were asked to arrange a party.
The box office hit “Ocean’s Eleven” sprung to mind as the perfect theme – it reflected the audacious, risk taking spirit the deal had involved, while its Las Vegas backdrop added appropriate glamour. We chose Brocket Hall as the venue, which provided a stunning setting and five star accommodation for guests flying-in from overseas. For one night, Brocket Hall became Las Vegas, with the surrounding parkland dramatically illuminated, search lights strobing the skies and an enormous fountain gushing outside the entrance. Dress was “strictly red carpet” and the entertainment high octane, with spectacular fireworks, a cabaret from “The Rat Pack”and dancing to a 20 piece swing band.
But the highlight of the evening, and in many ways the element that demonstrated the importance of valuing guests, was a song we specially commissioned to be written and performed by a satirical comedian. His brilliant lyrics told the story of the deal’s highs and lows and all the personalities involved in a very comic yet personal way, which made everyone feel recognised and appreciated.
